There's a huge
"...gulf..." between
mechanical safety and
mechanical efficiency in most (non-eco) peoples eyes.
Just because the MPG-to-weight ratio is high is no guarantee the "broken egg-shell" syndrome isn't gonna happen during the slightest impact.
