Yes, it's there on a plane for carb icing - but they can also go to higher altitudes to get less dense air into the engine and less wind resistance (which is standard practice).

They also have a manual control that leans the mixture and some planes have variable speed props which would be equivalent to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). All of this allows you to operate the engine at max BSFC.
