I have owned some cars that were very prone to carb icing which manifests itself as lowering tickover as mixture gets over rich and eventually as the carb fills with ice the engine stops.I found the worst conditions for this were a temp just above freezing and damp foggy weather.Perhaps it was my background in aviation that made me experiment with carb heat and mixture controls from within my older cars. I used to have a 282 mile round trip comute and constant adjustment of mixture etc saved a bit of gas and helped break the boredom.
