I think you are missing the point entirely.
On an average 20000km year (16000 miles) that f150 would burn about 300 gallons less a year.
The same savings on a 40mpg civic or similar car (by improving the MPG the same percentage) would save only 129 gallons.
I don't have a choice in vehicles, I need to have a truck pull heavy loads. I cannot afford multiple vehicles. By concentrating on trucks and finding ways to save there, the fuel we are saving is much greater than trying squeeze the last drop out a small car that is unsuitable to the job.
I used to have an accord, and it got great mpg, but now I have to make my current vehicle more efficient. (I have a Ecoboost 3.5) which is much more efficient than the older v8's, but if there is a way to burn less, than I am all for it.
