No, not unusual.

I was at a conference in Glasgow earlier in the year and they had a guest act who asked this very question.

He suggested turning the roll round when visiting people to see what their reaction would be - the woman sitting next to me (quite fearsome - it was Glasgow) looked like she would "do him some damage" (his words) if he turned the roll round the other way.
