Since plexiglass has a good resistence to impacts, it's still a good option to consider. Anyway, you still have a lot of room for improvements in that wagon. One thing you could consider is a single-arm windshield wiper, since it saves a few pounds and does a slight decreasement in the drag - no wonder it's widely used in race cars.
