sorry, more brain dump, was driving the civic and could easily see using the gas and clutch pedals connected via cables (and a spring loaded dog clutch thingie) to an AC generator. Yah you might get some more wear on pivots and etc, but too easy to do. Might be useful if you are using a supercap instead of a battery too
There should probably be a dog clutch on the axle too instead of a freewheel which could wear out. Then you could have low speed regen also if you are feeling ambitious.
