Getting a 2-pot with a turbo, or a supercharger (eventually both
), would be a good way to deal with the eventual need for the 4-cylinder power. With a supercharger, there is always the option to work around a clutch on its pulley to disable it when not needed.

I have seen pictures of a Chevy small-block V8 converted to 2-stroke once, just can't remember where. But it's also a nice idea, I still consider 2-strokes a viable option.
