The area's look near equal and with the reputation for race cars being that of high drag, I have to wonder which one is the more aerodynamic.

I'd guess that the antique/vintage racer would have the lower Cd (maybe 0.90 vs 1.2 for the F-1 car),we'd have to compare frontal areas for drag factors.
