Wow thats not very impressive. I am borrowing a friends Ford Torus wagon with 3.0L V6.
I did basic modifications to my driving techniques, never going over speed limit,coasting when possible, no fast acceleration and minimal braking.
On a 29 mile round trip of mixed driving, I got a trip ave. of 36mpg and over 40mpg HWY. according to the android app torque. I have not driven the car enough to verify those numbers.
