Ford has had electrically defrosting windscreens for ages , as one of the sole manufacturers - using embedded hot wiring as at the rear, but much finer .
They work well, and I've always wondered why even safety conscious manufacturers like Volvo (even when on Ford's books) didn't use 'm.

They are visible, but you get used to the tiny wires quickly, and look beyond them.


With a bit of planning, they could make it possible to cut out the power to faulty wires, without degrading performance all that much.
