Sounds like I'm pretty lucky that my wife is semi-interested in getting good mileage. In the Prius, I would say she could come within a few MPGs on me in most situations. She thinks of it as a game, but sometimes she just doesn't care.

Screw that! I am not going to work hard to help her when she doesn't even care. Don't get me wrong, I continue to offer ideas and help, but the mindless gaze or whining or excuses on why not mean I shouldn't bother wasting my time.

OP might see it differently, and he may be above my pettiness, but I won't have someone think they are doing better because of "nothing." I will help someone as far as they want, but one won't see the day I work hard on something that someone else doesn't care about.
