Another thing is, we were always "late". Ultimately I found a solution that worked wonderfully: LIE about the departure time- say you want to be on the road at 5:30 when the truth is you want to be on the road at 6:00. You will end up leaving at 6 and everybody will be happy... well, except about your GRANNY driving.
I figured this out about 3 months into marriage haha. I only needed a 15 minute adjustment but it's become an essential part of my planning
