On the topic of the Prius and other hybrids, it still amazes me how many of those I see speed by me on the Interstates, as I cruise along in the RAM at 65-70mph. The Prius really isn't designed to scream along at 80mph...

You know, my wife sounds like yours...she loved the Durango and Rams I owned (back when I liked to throw money away on vehicles...) but hated the gas mileage. Don't get me wrong, I hated the gas mileage too. I then got the Versa and told her about wheel pie pans and she said, "Don't you dare!" I told her the benefits and she didn't doubt them, she just didn't want to be seen in a car with pie pan hubcaps. I know there are a lot of people that would not want their cars looking like that. I think about it for the Civic, but really don't have the time to mess around with the car between work and school. For now, I am still perfecting my Civic driving to get into the 40's.
To save gas money, I do all of the family driving in my car. My wife only drives the Mazda about 50 miles a week. If she had a daily commute, I would push her harder to drive a little better. She isn't bad at speeding or racing to red lights though. She has got the very basics down.
On another note, if I had the time and funds, I would love to throw a 4BT/6 speed manual into a 3rd Gen Ram. I think the potential for a 30 mpg highway truck is there. Even the Cummins 2500's have the potential to get into the high 20's, if it isn't lifted and towing a trailer.
I get passed by hybrids all of the time. Then again, I am probably getting the same mileage as them (when speeding) in my non-hybrid.
