^^^This. Except that the mid-sized are designed that way to steer you toward buying the bigger one where there is better profit margin (especially for the oil companies).
Also agree with others that trucks are getting too tall to be useful. At work we have a 91 Chevy 2500 and the bed rails are easily reached over, and tailgate easily dropped and loaded. Hanging with friends who all own pickups, and they all lament the days when you all could lean on the sides of the bed and chat while drinking coffee in the parking lot of the Dunkin Donuts...
