1978 Dodge 15 seat van.

But with an extra seat added between the two front captain chairs and a person seated over the wheel well hump.

So, 17 people X 21 mpg @ 55 mph = 357 person mpg.

The roof rack held most of the passenger luggage so aero was shot to hell.

The gross vehicular weight was over 10,000 pounds.

The Spicer rear axle held 5.56 gears spun by a 727 auto transmission and the whole thing was powered by a 360 cu. in. engine.

The engine was heavily modified. But, the 55 mph speed limit of the time was the real key. Los Angeles to New Orleans and back. The fuel mileage averaged out to 21 mpg.
