Hey ecomodder gang,
Long time no see I thought I’d give an update on my Aero-Teardrop Mk 1 trailer. Well in a non analytical word it worked “Great”. But more analytically our Matrix averaged 29.9 mpg while towing. About half the time at 60mpg on the highway and the other half slow speed on very back roads and very hilly, mountains actually Funny enough is that the mpg was nearly the same for the two environments!

For comparison the car has 130kmiles and a lifetime average of about 37mpg with no aero mods. When driving with two bicycles on the roof at 60mph it gets about 33. So about 10% worse than hauling bikes, not too bad I supppose.

I never got around to the Mk 2 trailer and car mods. I was offered a price for the trailer that I couldn’t refuse Then I went and did something really stupid and bought a truck camper for my F250. When carrying the camper it gets about 15mpg @ 60mph using that expensive diesel compared to 19mpg with a cap on However, looking for a positive, not too bad though compared to towing my 10k lb of sailboat and trailer at 60mpg and 12mpg.

But I must say camping, especially when the weather is crappy is Sooooo much nicer than in the Teardrop So my project this year is aero mods to the truck and camper to see if I can’t get her up to 17mpg!!!!
