In 1973 I saw Fords sabotaged by assembly line workers one week before a strike. I stayed away from Fords for decades, when I saw a hole drilled into the main oil gallery on a brand new truck, under the torque converter, with a "you found it you $%^&"" written next to the hole. The truck never left the dealership with oil pouring out of the bellhousing. How it ever got out of the factory I can't imagine.
I drive a 2011 Fiesta today, average 45 MPG in a car rated at 38 high way. It was totalled and rebuilt so the title is branded and there is no warranty. I worked on cars for most of my adult life and after 23k miles I think this Fiesta is one of the best cars I have ever owned.
Only the future will tell about long term reliability but right now I am one happy camper, especially significant considering my past experience.
