If they'd experienced all of it at a more appropriate venue, the same might be true. I don't mean to excuse their actions (although it does seem like they took pains to get away from traffic and pedestrians before starting to stretch the car's legs).

As for the pickup, there was nothing nefarious. The guy was just making a turn after a stop sign. A pickup truck, slick road, some off-camber to the turn, and he was toast. It's probably not exactly the same loss of control as the Porsche incident, which more than likely began with snap oversteer.
