I had a job for a year where I was traveling for work. I did make a decent amount. After gas, I was making $300-600 a month on mileage reimbursements. In the year i was there, it more than paid for the down payment, maintenance and payments I was making on the car.
I bought the Focus for that job. The city driving in my Cherokee was killing me (I had a few 10 MPG tanks) and, while the highway mileage was a bit better, it just made sense to buy something more fuel efficient.
When I got the Focus, I planned on having the job much longer. Didn't quite pan out that way.
Insurance would have been killer if I had let them know I was driving the vehicle a lot for work. That was key to making money. I didn't find out that it had to be insured as work travel until *after* I switched jobs. Good to know ...
