fair enough not all ecotecs are prone to the timing guide problem. i have one customer with a saturn wagon with an ecotec that has 360k miles on it. still going strong.
then again i had one that had 120k on it and the engine was dry as a fart externally but it burned oil. no indications of smoke or anything just locked up while they were driving. customer had oil changed every 3k miles.

Oh - I mean is the Vortec 1600 related to the S-Tech or D-Tech (whatever they called it) in the Aveos. The later Aveos did have an "ecotec" engine - but it was just the complete failure of S-Tech engine with an ecotec engine cove on it. It wasn't related to the Ecotec in the Cobalts or Sonics.
