Redpoint, that too was my experience. My parents wanted me to use a family friend of a friend for the past 100 years. I felt my parents were paying too much for insurance. I got a quote and it was 3 times what progressive quoted me. Turns out this guy was a generic insurance company who uses one of the few you see advertised on tv. I guess he pockets the difference?
For giggles I went to get a quote for my father from progressive and was told 36 bucks a month for full coverage 500 deductible. He was being charges 200 a month from this "friend".
