97 b2300 here. same as the ranger.
but mine is only 2.3l and 2wd. Oh, and it's manual. lol pretty much every possible difference we could have, but I've put an air dam on it and maxed out tire pressure... and that's about it. I'm getting a solid 30mpg from it.
The mods you mentioned should definitely help you out.
