Got any idea when the last time the tranny filter and a flush were performed? Flushed our Escort at 60k after it got kind of goofy about going into overdrive. The filter was a black mess and I used Mercon V fluid. Solved the problem pretty instantly.
Now I make sure to change the tranny filter every 50k or so. No problems to report. I'd at least give it a try, routine maintenance anyway.
