How to install LSD in your honda civic manual tranny

I picked up a cx/vx/hx? tranny from fellow ecomodder SLOWNUGLY in PA. This is the one with the final drive of 3.25 that should get me stupid good mpg's on the highway! (my world record tank right now is just over 43mpg, and I lean burn, but I'm running an LX manual tranny)

this is my video of the LSD install into the pinion:

HOW TO INSTALL LSD IN YOUR MANUAL HONDA TRANNY - YouTube

I picked the lsd block up for about $115 on ebay, free shipping. Also got a new bearing and seal set from ebay for the same money (the only part of the bearing set that I don't like are the driveshaft seals, but you can get thru your first flush before they will start to weep, then I go to Honda parts online)

This is a how - to thread, so this is how I did (assuming you already got the pinion out of the tranny):

Push the pin out from the back side of the pinion (I used a 3 1/4" nail - watch the video)

push the center bar out of the pinion and remove the gears and washers

THIS IS THE HARD / IMPORTANT PART:

(The LSD block rides between the gears on the top and bottom)

The gears that sit at the top and bottom of the pinion will need to be ground down. notice that these gears have a raised edge for the washer that it rides on? DON'T TOUCH IT!!!
Flip the gear over. There are letters stamped into the teeth aound the gear. That's the side that you grind to make clearance for the Lsd block. Take your time. Grind them evenly (I don't have access to anything precise, so I used a flap-wheel grinder and kept checking with a straight edge & micrometer ) TRY AND PUT IT TOGETHER AFTER EVERY SET OF GRINDS SO YOU DON'T GO TOO FAR. When it goes, it goes.

Then you can take it back out, and get the side gears and their washers, and set them in place between the top and bottom gears. Look at it from both sides and make sure it is straight, and spin the assembly around to where you are about to put the pin back thru, and install the LSD block again, this time you run the pin thru the pinion body, gears, washers, and LSD block. Knock the roll pin to lock the bar in place, and you've got LSD.

This makes a lot more sense if you watch the video I posted the link to above

I'll post pics later. Enjoy!
