Well ,here's how you can have your cake and eat it too.

I'll try to explain.

First build your box or whatever shape with it open at the top. (sides, front, back and bottom)

Then build a over lapping top. Flat on top, triangle sides and a front panel. No rear panel.

Put a hinge at the back of the trailer on the top and or sides.

Attach the over lapping top to the hinge at the back of the trailer.

To access the trailer you could either tilt the top, remove the top or make a tailgate that lowers. You could also add a door in the front for easy access when you go camping.

Lift and lock the front of the top in the up position when traveling for aero.

Lower it when you want a flat work surface.

If and when you go camping, when in the up position you will have more room and be able to sit up.
