If you drop the rpm too much on the 4 speed auto it may not hold overdrive or lockup the torque converter on the highway. With a manual you can always force it to stay in whatever gear you want. 4.33 gears are pretty steep but you already tamed them somewhat with the bigger tires. What might be best for economy would be to swap the gears and go back to the small tires. If you are paying $500+ to swap gears it will take a long time to pay for itself, if you found a $100 junkyard rear end with the taller gears then easier to justify.
