Hucho was involved in the aerodynamic optimization of the original Golf/Rabbit,Jetta,etc.. The nose of the production 1st-gen VW has almost as low a drag as the 'optimum' nose tested on the car.
Hucho mentions that we ought to focus on the rear of our cars,to reduce or eliminate the flow separation which is responsible for the lion's share of drag.
Here is the 'long-tail' VW 'Flow' body of 1981,with Cd 0.14.You can see that it's nose is nothing remarkable,although it does have a complete boat-tailed rear.
