When the starter motor engages both it and the engine are at zero rpm. Both accelerate together.

When running 50 mph the clutch disc is turning what 2000-3000 rpm and the motor zero. When pulse motoring I am expected to engage once a mile or less. So I have 5-100 of such starts per trip. Once in a while doesn't do much but do an extra 100,000 bumps and see if your clutch likes you. Probably over quadruple of the engagements of slipping the clutch from a normal takeoff, at very mismatched speeds.

When I change gears normally I am doing my best to match the engine speed anticipated to the vehicle speed. Pulsing doesn't allow throttle control to match rpm up as the engine is off.

I would rather buy the fuel than do this.

I am not going to take in the amount hours of running at near zero oil pressure. Say it takes 2-3 seconds for oil pressure to build in all the bearings at a hot start. Mulitiply that by 100,000. 27 hours of engine running without full oil pressure and yet making power.
