I actually put that type of an air filter on the Gnat ("Spectre?", not "K&N") when I did my warm air intake. But it wasn't because I was under any delusions that it would "help" in any way other than the size and shape allowed me to proceed with my custom canister/snorkel to take the air off the exhaust manifold.
