It's how you use the clutch, not why you use the clutch. Bump starting or regular shifting, the clutch don't care. What matters is you: you're either hard on your clutch or not.
I thrashed my Subaru for over 165k before hypermiling it for over 41k. Lots of EOC. I finally parked it at just over 207k because the clutch was too far gone to depend on and too much money to sink into the car. In 25 years of driving that's the only clutch I've worn out. The only one I've had to replace is one the rear main seal leaked oil all over.
