I don't yet have one of Paul's fantastic controllers so can't say for sure. The circuits i am messing about with are for a BMS so still a PIC but a different model.
I assumed the In Circuit Programming would be the same for all but maybe not.
There may be too much circuitry on the 5v rail for the pickit3 to power it so powering the circuit and using the pickit3 to program but not supply power may be the only way to go.

Paul, which method did you use? Did you try both?
