Just saw a 1966 Mustang restoration yesterday tastefully done with headers. The spark plug location in relation to the header tubing was such that the owner had experienced more than one melted plug wire. Out of frustration, the owner purchased some of the woven heat tubing about 1 inch in diameter and cut it into 8 inch lengths. These ran from the plugs at the head to a distance which covered the critical heat zone around the header tubing. In several places, the heat resistant tubing showed some darkening but the plug wire inside was well protected and still in great shape.

While not a perfect restoration, the heat tubing sure helped to make it a weekend driver without fear of loosing a wire. The application was very eye-catching. It was also a reminder of how much room used to exist under the hood of a car where one could actually do some work and not end up with fresh scar tissue.
