I think that depends on the dog. One of mine (the Border Collie/Aussie mix) will spread-eagle herself on every snowdrift we find hiking in the mountains (but this year they are, alas, all melted already). The other (maybe a Plott Hound) will jump in ice-rimmed ponds and swim around chasing the ducks.
