But I think it's necessary to get a true picture of how (and whether) people travel to work. For instance, if you just look at the people whose commute is 1 mile or more, you might conclude that the average worker's commute is growing. But add in the people who telecommute, or live within walking/biking distance, and the average might actually be shrinking.

Yeah :-) And flexible work hours, too, which means I'm going to shut this computer off and take the dogs for a hike, then probably work a couple more hours when we get back.
