I put a plastic stick on bump as a guide just below the a/c switch and the vent switch so I don't have to look down at them when driving. It becomes a habit pretty quick. Air on decel, vent on accel. Being warm is a good reminder.

I also keep a garden hose next to my car and hose it off prior to departure. It helps reduce the temps of getting in a hot car and the temptation to run the a/C at initial launch. I have also really reduced the number of commercial car washes which has also been a big savings.
