Nope, it's applied directly to the paint. It's a "clear bra". Shouldn't change the .cD at all.
It's not cheap, so obviously it's not for us that drive beaters or older cars. But the owners of new cars should be interested in it to prevent rock chips, bug damage, sand blasting, etc.
