1600cfm isn't the greatest but as long as you don't sit in a lot of traffic with the air conditioning on you will be ok. Controller is the next step so you can turn the fan off and on either manually or automatically, whichever method you prefer. I don't think the pollution stuff helps economy at all rebuilding the system probably won't get you any gain in mpg. Removing it will lighten the car and eliminate 1 belt from the accessory load on the engine though.
