we have some great recycling programs where i live in canada that accept old tires, along with just about anything else you can think of. it's big business here.
i actually just got back from a road trip through WA, OR, CA, and NV and was really disappointed with the complete absence of recycling facilities we could find. there were even countless cans and bottles, which people pay a deposit on, in the trash in most places. it's such a waste.
