Hi! I have a soft spot for a 96 with D16Y7. Is yours a stick? It can offer a whole lot of mileage if you push for it. I second (and third and fourth etc) the call for a gauge. Seeing what affects mileage in real time is the best mileage improver there is. I have the Scangauge-II.
Short-shift it (2000 rpm), keep about 1/2 throttle when you're accelerating, use neutral whenever you're not accelerating.
