Hello,
Engine off coasting is quite different from coasting in neutral with the engine idling.
I don't EOC because the one time I tried it (going extremely slowly in line at a toll booth, I dang near had to put my foot through the floor to stop before hitting the car ahead of me -- the handbrake worked MUCH better! And steering w/o the vacuum assist is no picnic either.
Before you jump to conclusions, I'm 6'-4", 245 pounds and I can carry both my kids at the same time (~190 pounds together!). I've driven several older cars that did not have this problem (1968 AMC Rebel (had manual steering and brakes), 1970 Volvo 144 (manual steering and power assist brakes), 1987 VW Golf (manual steering and power assist brakes), 1997 Plymouth Neon (power steering and power brakes), and most recently before the Scion xA, I drove a 2002 Ford Focus ZX5 (power steering and power brakes). If my memory serves me, all of these cars were much easier to drive with the engine off.
