The drivetrain on the base and sport Fits is identical. The manual gear ratios are all stupid. It works for me because I rarely have it on the highway and my daily commute tops out at 55 mph limit (and I don't even go that fast).
I hauled a Lazy-boy chair in mine last month, with ease. I've had 2 hay bales in the back with all the seats up.
