Route changes are a great way to save gas, hypermiling techniques help a huge amount, aeromods will shave a bit . . . . . but by far the best way to save gas in your car (other than walking or biking) is to carpool it with at least one person!

I get around 66 mpg in the Turtle, which is the best gas mileage I've ever gotten in any car I've ever driven, and didn't even know was possible until six months ago . . . . . but that total doesn't account for the 15 gallons a week I'm saving that my my wife was using driving separately, since we carpool now.

We are literally saving over a hundred dollars a week on gas expenses from what we were spending two and a half years ago, when I drove a Land Rover and she drove a V8 Explorer.

BTW, I tried a different route this morning which in theory had less stop-and-start and was a straighter shot to my wife's work. Unfortunately there were several long uphill spans that made it hard to keep the IMA charged, and made it impossible to stay in lean burn. My other route is longer, but I average better mpgs, so I'll have to do the math to figure which one makes more sense.
