Quarter-million miles. Is that the original engine? I wouldn't be shocked if the rings and valves bled a little pressure over time.

Original engine as far as I know. Previous owner believed the car had a fresh head and head gasket put on at 180k just before he bought the car. Very possible that it is the engine spinning. The car will lock the wheels after moving a couple inches on a hill so you're probably right
