I think you're right ... I found several articles about VW only recommending up to B5. AutoBlogGreen mentioned it, as does this article:
Turbo Diesels Take on Hybrids and the Biodiesel Board (the national trade group) has a statement on their site at
Biodiesel.org - Standards & Warranties that says manufacturer's use different recommendations, with most recommending up to B20.
