I have not checked compression but I also do NOT have a VX transmission. I have a 96 civic hatchback CX transmission which has gearing more similar to that of a DX trans.
I also live deep in the Appellation mountains. When I drove the car out west I got much high MPG's with a bad O2 sensor.
here is my daily commute one way. As you can see I have some vast elevation changes of almost 1000 feet
