He is probably looking for a universal bms And knowing the cost is low.

It is interesting though, I have looked at the original and have had many of the same thoughts. I wound up using an attiny24a to reduce the parts and increase the usability (i.e. internal voltage reference, internal oscillator, 1.8v operation).

It is probably way overdue that an intelligent distributed open bms for seriously low cost be an option for the diy crowd (without everyone designing their own from scratch). Parts wise it is like $3/cell, including a board.
