Got an indicated 25.8mpg at 65mph from Wichita to the toll booth at Kansas City. The left wing of the upper gap cover flipped up during the drive and I didn't git a chance to fix it until I refueled the truck and passengers. I got an indicated 24mpg at 65mph from Kansas City to Iowa City. I had to slow down a few times due to icy road conditions. Head and cross winds were pretty severe during the majority of the trip and made driving a little squirrelly at times.
I do want to experiment with lowering the air pressure in the air shocks and reducing the amount of sand ballast over the trailer wheel. I do understand there is a relationship with the air bag air pressure and the amount of ballast weight over the wheel. I know I will have to find the matched air pressure fer the air bag and 60lbs of sand ballast when I'm running an empty trailer. Hopefully I'll be able to create a ballast chart matched with the proper air bag pressure with enough testing.
With the exception of the trailer, I've kept the weight in the bed aft of the rear axle to a minimum.
I estimate about 150lbs of luggage weight in the trailer and 180lbs of sand ballast. The cargo weight in the truck bed is approximately 300lbs. I did move the ~75lbs spare tire that was stored aft of the rear axle under the bed to inside the truck bed forward of the rear axle. I estimate the nose of the truck is about 2" higher than my normal runs and the rear of the truck is lower by about the same amount. I'm gonna try lowering the air shock pressure down and see what turns out.
