You can change the trans oil, but you don't want to use anything but the Toyota oil in it. Its designed for use in the HSD CVT system, and apparently is a great oil.

Have you considered an ECT spoofer? I have one and I like it. I'm not sure if you ever struggle to maintain engine temps with your car, but I do in winter with mine.
