After each tank fillup, do not adjust the % to the correct value (amount of fuel pumped) right away.
Basically you would calibrate the fuel value by only 50% of the variation. This will make the calibration process quicker since the scangauge will tend to overshoot less around the set point or the desired, calibrated value.
Also, try to use the same gas pump at each fillup for more accuracy.
